Well, Eli is not home yet. His discharge was delayed, probably only for a couple days. There is nothing concerning, they just want to investigate a couple things further and see how he does using the oxygen support and nutrition combo he will have at home. So, it is looking like Wednesday or Thursday and possibly the weekend. As far as his day, he did get both the cranial scan and echo. The cranial scan was good, but the Dr did tell Kristin something that was new and also something that "is nothing to worry about.". Of course I hear that and think it means we should worry! We have not talked to a Dr yet about the echo results which is a good sign. When they move to the intermediate nursery there is no longer 24 hour Dr support so I am hoping to catch him in the morning. Eli also got his RSV shot and had a visit from the pulmonary specialist. He has been diagnosed as having chronic lung disease...this sounds much worse than it is, it is very common for premature babies, and almost all kids outgrow it before age 2. It just means it will take awhile to get off breathing treatments and for his lungs to fully mature. Overall the discharge checkups are going well.
Jack is doing good but had two more bronchial spasms today where he can't breath. It is hard to see happen (happened once while holding him yesterday) but he recovers immediately with them "bagging" him. Other than these episodes, he is doing well. He has gained several ounces each of the last two days, so they are going to change it up and give him medicine to make him urinate more for the next 12 to 24 hours.
Thank you all again for praying. This is a very exhausting, stressful, tolling experience that seems to have no finish line. We feel encouraged by everyone who cares and find renewed strength from God...not sure how else you can stay engaged for this long at this stress level.
