At the moment, we have a cold going through our family, but besides that, both boys have been doing really well.
We are so excited that BOTH our boys were able to be home for Thanksgiving and Christmas this past year, what a blessing!
Since the last post, Jack was in the hospital for one night for a respiratory bug, but other than that has been doing really well. He is typically off the vent the whole time he is awake and has also started time off the vent during his nap. Once he is off the vent for his whole nap, he will start going chunks of time off at night. We are very excited about his progress with this. In January, Jack started crawling! About a year ago our small group helped us replace all the downstairs carpet with laminate floors to reduce bacteria, allow easier rolling of ventilator stand, etc. This means on the hard floor Jack does his best gorilla impression since he is still pushing with his knees rather than lifting (and hence no traction). He does the traditional crawl on carpet (upstairs) though showing off his versatility ;) We have entered a new era at our house of Jack decannulating (pulling his trach out) but are hoping it will be short lived now that he is able to crawl and more easily get to things he is after, probably wishful thinking. :) He has decannulated twice at home and it was definitely a reminder of how fragile he still is.
Eli started taking steps back in November, but didn't really start walking more than crawling until January. He is on the move! Eli has had some trouble with swallowing and his liquids have to be thickened, but he has really turned a corner with eating some purees and dissolvable munchies, so we are really excited about that! Since Jack has become more mobile, Eli has definitely started paying more attention to him, which has been fun for us to see them start to bond more.
Both boys still have weekly physical therapy and speech therapy (feeding therapy) twice a month. They are also getting synagis shots during the winter to help protect against RSV. We are teaching the boys some basic sign language, which has been really fun and helpful to understand what they may want. They can pick it up so quickly!
We are so thankful and praising the Lord for the great progress our boys continue to make.
Thank you to everyone reading this for continuing to be part of our journey, we are truly appreciative of your support.
