Thank you for all the encouraging comments and prayers. Our little big guy is doing much better. Eli still does not seem as strong as a few days back, but he was acting better than yesterday with far fewer episodes. His stomach was noticeably better and by mid-day the Dr decided to resume increasing both his and Jack's feedings. At this point, concern over there being a bug or infection is almost gone and his behavior yesterday is being confidently attributed to him using all his energy earlier in the week when they removed his cpap.
As far as the other tests today, both an ultrasound of the brain and echocardiogram for the heart were done for both boys. Results are as good as we could hope for! This is a huge relief. Kristin and I definitely understand experiencing peace only God can provide as we were both curiously calm and ready to accept the news. We are over the top excited though as news was fantastic.
Both boys have a grade 1 brain bleed which is basically nothing. This level is the 99.9 percent chance of not being an issue. It should resolve itself and cause no developmental issues. Praise the Lord! Unless something changes (which it can, though is less likely with each passing day), neither boy will have a follow up scan until close to going home or original due date (11/26).
As far as hearts...also good news. Both boys' murmurs were what was expected. The issue of a valve having not closed yet as it typically does at a later gestational age. This may require intervention in the future, but so long as they continue to avoid negative related symptoms, we are just waiting it out to see if they grow out of it. They were unable to get a good view of Jack's aorta, so they will look at him again next week as the Dr was unable to rule out whether or not there is a peculiarity there. BUT, they did say this is of little concern because if there were some abnormality, it should have presented itself by now through poor pulse readings in his extremities.
Thank you again for praying. They were not joking when they told us the NICU is a roller coaster. Last night we were bummed trying not to let it get the best of us. Tonight we are as excited as we've been.
I guess we just have to wait and see what tomorrow holds...personally, I'm hoping for a 2 lb party for Jack! :)
Yay!! So glad to hear the good news from today.
ReplyDeleteGreat news! So happy to hear it.
ReplyDeletePraise the Lord!!!!
ReplyDeleteA 2lb party for Jack would be Awesome!!! We're so excited for the boys' progress and the great care they're getting! It's amazing how much work and thought goes into creating a 'womb' outside the body where mommy's body just knows what to do with the baby! It's even more amazing that we can create part of that effect and provide help for those little ones. :) Praising God today!!!
